Set in Washington State in 1964, an immigrant and single mother who works at a factory takes refuge from her hardships by imagining herself and her co-workers in Hollywood musicals.

The closing chapter of von Trier’s unofficial ‘Golden Heart Trilogy’ is perhaps his most empathetic and soul crushing. The on set tension between Björk and von Trier is well documented, but the result is emotionally draining and absolutely beautiful.

This could be the saddest movie ever made.
